When we hear the parable of the sower, we often think about whether we are the good soil that yields thirty, sixty or a hundredfold, or the bad soil. But have we thought about this sower, this crazy sower? What sower sows seed on a path, or on rocky ground or among thorns along with the good soil. You know you are only going to get good crops from rich soil. The crazy sower shows us that we have a crazy God, a God who is going to pour his love out indiscriminately. Whatever state we are in, God seeks to plant his love in us.

This has ramifications. If this is how God plants his love, how can we be so discriminate. We are to plant God’s love everywhere. We cannot say this one will never listen, or this one is bitter, or even this one is my enemy. Remember, Jesus came for sinners not for the worthy ones (as if there are any). God loves us not because we are good, but because God is good. Let us plant the seed that God loves everyone in whatever state they are in.

God Bless,
