Baptism

Infant Baptism:
This first Sacrament of Initiation into the life of the Church is celebrated by appointment after the 11:00am Mass on the third Sunday of the month. For a child to be baptized  at least one parent must be registered and a practicing Catholic. “Practicing” means regular participation in Sunday worship and support for the parish through time, talent, and treasure. Church law recommends infants are baptized within a reasonable time after birth.

First-time parents are required to participate in Baptismal Preparation classes. Please contact Deacon John Beckmann to arrange for these classes. A godparent must be 16 or older, baptized, confirmed in the Catholic Church, have received the Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist, and be a practicing Catholic. A baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic ecclesial community is not to participate except together with a Catholic sponsor and then as a witness of the baptism.

Confirmation

Youth:
Confirmation for youth is received during the 8th Grade. To be confirmed an individual must participate in the program that is offered through the elementary school or P.S.R. program. In addition to reflecting on their faith in classes, candidates are asked to participate in service projects and a day of prayer. This final Sacrament of Initiation is celebrated in conjunction with the confirmandi at Holy Cross Academy at Seven Holy Founders.

Adults:
Occasionally an adult Catholic has not been confirmed in his/her youth. Adults who wish to be confirmed are encouraged to call the Rectory to make arrangements to receive this sacrament.

Anointing of the Sick

This Sacrament is primarily intended for any person suffering from serious or chronic physical or emotional illness or is struggling with infirmities of age. One need not be in danger of death nor does the Church anoint one who has already died – sacraments are by their nature for the living.

Individual Anointing: If you are scheduled to go into the hospital for surgery or extended care, contact the rectory BEFORE you go, in order to arrange for the celebration of this Sacrament. For emergency situations please call 353-7629.

Communal Anointing: The parish celebrates the Sacrament of the Sick, for all who would like to receive it, twice a year in the spring and fall. Specific dates will be published in the bulletin. In Case of Death: Although the Church does not anoint one who has already died, a priest or deacon may be invited to minister to the family and lead prayers at the time of death (as provided by the Church).

Marriage

Engaged couples intending to be married  must contact the pastor at least SIX MONTHS in advance of their requested date. Definite plans for this date should not be made until such contact has been made. Please contact the pastor, Fr. Chris Holtmann, for all inquiries. All couples preparing for marriage will take the FOCCUS marriage inventory of communication and compatibility and participate in one of several Marriage Preparation Programs, including Natural Family Planning. The presiding priest or deacon will assist the couple in planning the marriage ceremony.
