Name Submissions

The Archbishop has requested that the parishioners of St. Dominic Savio and St. George suggest options for the name of the newly merged parish. Below you will find the form to fill out. We suggest forming your WHY and HOW in another document and copy and paste it when you are ready to submit. Here is sample submission to give you an idea of what we are looking for:

Who: St. Matthew

Why: Sure, that’s kind of plain. But he wrote the first Gospel. And that’s what we need to do today – proclaim the Gospel again, for the first time. This would fit in South County. There’s already a Saint Mark. It would be complemented by St. Matthew.

How: “Proclaiming the Gospel in word and deed.”  The interplay of words and deeds is a huge theme in Matthew’s portrayal of Jesus. It’s captured really nicely in CCC 53: “The divine plan of Revelation is realized simultaneously “by deeds and words which are intrinsically bound up with each other” and shed light on each another. It involves a specific divine pedagogy: God communicates himself to man gradually. He prepares him to welcome by stages the supernatural Revelation that is to culminate in the person and mission of the incarnate Word, Jesus Christ.” That’s what we need to do in our time and place: proclaim the Gospel in word and deed.
